Sketching with Stuart - Friday 10 May 2013 - 10am -  (more about Stuart)

Welcome back to the clubrooms after the school holidays break.. We are going to do portraits this week in a game called "Famous? Faces". I have taken photos from the newspapers this week and you will have a go at drawing a likeness from that. We will then put the results up at the end of the session, and if your portrait gets recognised, there will be a small prize awarded. Should be fun. For those of you new to the group, there is no charge for this activity if you are a club member. Those who do not belong to Mana Arts Society should expect to pay a 'gold coin'. See you on friday, Stuart.

Weekly schedule:

We are looking forward to a busy year ahead and invite interested Plimmerton residents to join us in our activities. Our clubrooms are centrally placed in Plimmerton domain and there is something happening most days of the week.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings there are painting sessions starting at 10am and going through to lunch time.  Come and work on your own projects – whatever they may be.  It's free for club members but non members are encouraged though they will be expected to contribute a gold coin donation to go towards room running costs. Contact Stuart Nicol on 026 644 5713 or stunicol@paradise.net.nz  for details. The first session will be around 18 January.

There is an evening painting group that meets once a month on Wednesdays at 7pm and the contact for that is Sarah Morton semorton@xtra.co.nz.  First session for the year is on Wednesday 26 January.

Thursday evening sessions are run for life drawing enthusiasts. Starting at 6.30 and the first 2011 date will be 3 February. The contact is John Sherborne – j57sherborne@gmail.com

Those who would like to practice basic landscape sketching skills could join our Friday Sketch group  and go outdoors to sketch our marvelous scenery. There is no charge for this activity (unless we operate in the clubrooms due to wet weather). It will start on Friday 28 January with a visit to Pukerua Bay. The contact is Stuart Nicol -  027 644 5713- stunicol@paradise.net.nz.

Artful Kids NZ this will be a weekly art course for school kids on Tuesday afternoons during school terms and the contact person for that is Rachel Benefield at artfulkidsnz@gmail.com.

We will also run tuition days from time to time – usually on a Saturday – and we are planning a mixed media day in March.  Further details will be revealed in our March newsletter.

Mana Arts was formed 27 years ago under the leadership of the late Tui McLaughlan and at first met in member’s homes before hiring the Sea Scout clubrooms in Ngati Toa Domain for some years.

Mana Arts Society exists to promote and encourage artistic endeavours in the community. (Several members of MAS are represented in this site's Artist pages.) We have modern, purpose built clubrooms and hold non tutored workshops twice a week in a friendly, non-competitive atmosphere. Teaching sessions with experienced artists are frequently arranged and we have regular exhibitions in the clubrooms and in other suitable local venues so that members can show (and sell) their works to the public. There is an associated life drawing class running on a Thursday evening and a beginners sketching workshop operating on Friday mornings so that new members can learn the basics of drawing and go out and sketch local scenes.
